I'll try and not to reveal too much of the story behind Ali, you should ask her in-game to get more info. And you'll probably also need to be somewhat of a close friend.

Aliara's past is extremely shrouded. All that is known about her, is that she appeared quite suddenly by a meeting of the organization 'The Seekers'. One of the founding members, everyone were grieved when they found out she was poisoned during a mission for the Shattered Hand. The mission objective was to retrieve a poison from The Sludge Fen and return it to the HQ. As she opened the chest containing the poison, Touch of Zanzil, a small dark-green cloud emitted, infecting her by instant. Now, as her body is highly resistant to poisons and antidotes alike, you'd think she was alright. And so it seemed. She was given an antidote by an alchemist in Tarren Mill, but as her body is also resistant to antidotes, it only managed to slow down the process. Later she disappeared, and it turned out she had become undead - a near-to-insane ghoul. She maintained much of her sanity, but eventually she succumbed and took control of the lower part of the city, Deathknell. here, she launched attacks on the upper part of the village. Fortunately she was s'saved' by a young rogue. Together they went back to Sunstrider Isle, where the disease was removed. After this event, Aliara disappeared yet again. Now, she has returned bearing news of a new evil, a force inside Naxxramas. She hasn't said much, except 'Menethil has a new weapon'. Possibly, this 'Evil' and 'The Exarch' of whom an undead named Asertius spoke of, may be the same person. All that has turned out yet, is the presumed last name of this weapon. Tempus.
